Construction: Spring 2025
PBOT will be improving several local streets in the Tryon Creek and Stephens Creek watersheds in southwest Portland by paving gravel streets, adding sidewalks or walkways, or a combination. Funding comes from the Local Transportation Infrastructure Charge (LTIC) and other sources.
Design has been completed. Construction is expected to begin in April or May of 2024 and should take about six months to complete.
Environmental Services, in partnership with the Portland Water Bureau, has completed design on a project to upgrade infrastructure in NW Portland. This project will increase system capacity, reduce the risk of sewer discharges, and improve earthquake resilience for our critical infrastructure.
The project is currently in design. Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2024 and take up to six months to complete.
Environmental Services is designing a project to replace approximately 450 feet of public sewer pipe and install a sanitary lift station on S Terwilliger Boulevard just north of S Northgate Avenue. Unstable ground conditions pose a risk of the pipe failing. This project will address this.
Construction is ongoing and is anticipated to be complete in early 2026.
Environmental Services is constructing a project that will install and upsize public sewer pipes and construct green street planters in the Buckman and Kerns neighborhoods. These improvements will increase sewer capacity, relieve sewer backups, and help reduce street flooding.
Construction Fall 2023
The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is planning to update the street design of NE 148th Avenue from NE 146th Drive to NE Halsey Street. PBOT plans to modify how space is allocated on NE 148th Avenue to reduce speeding and improve the street crossing at NE Sacramento Street.

Carolina Trunk Sewer Project

Environmental Services is designing a project to repair a section of large concrete sewer pipe running from Barbur Boulevard under Interstate 5 to Macadam Avenue. The "Carolina Trunk" sewer pipe was built almost 90 years ago and is in need of repair to prevent sewer and stormwater overflows.
Construction is expected to begin in January 2025 and take about one year to complete.
Environmental Services is designing a stormwater management project in the Portsmouth neighborhood to reduce the amount of pollution entering the Columbia Slough. This project is part of a larger effort to improve water and sediment quality in the Columbia Slough.

Hillsdale Middle Sewer Project

Construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2024 and will last a year.
Environmental Services is in the design phase of the Hillsdale Middle Sewer Project. This project will repair or replace approximately 11,897 feet of aging public sewer pipes throughout the neighborhood. Taking these actions now will help protect public health and the environment.

NE 6th Drive Pump Station Project

Environmental Services is constructing a project to expand and remodel the 44-year-old NE 6th Drive Pump Station in the East Columbia neighborhood. The upgrades will modernize equipment, increase system capacity, and protect public health and the environment.

NE Killingsworth Street Lighting
