Members of the media,

On Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020 at 6:30 p.m., Mayor Ted Wheeler will host a second community conversation on homelessness this year at the Beaumont Middle School cafeteria in northeast Portland. Building on the first community conversation earlier this month in southeast Portland, Mayor Wheeler – joined by service providers, community advocates and people with lived experiences – will share how the City is addressing homelessness and housing instability while inviting community members to share their priorities for continued improvements and upcoming budget decisions.

“At our first community conversation we shared how our strategic actions and partnerships are effectively addressing homelessness. We know focusing on shelter, housing, and services works. On any given day, 12,000 people stay in housing who otherwise might’ve been homeless in the city and county because of our efforts,” Mayor Wheeler said. “We also received valuable insight from community members. That insight will inform how we navigate the challenges we will continue to face in alleviating this crisis. No other issue is a higher priority in this administration.”

The Portland Police Bureau, Portland Fire & Rescue, the Homelessness and Urban Camping Impact Reduction Program (HUCIRP), the City of Portland and Multnomah County’s Joint Office of Homeless Services (JOHS), the Portland Housing Bureau, and two nonprofit providers, JOIN and Central City Concern, will be among the organizations presenting.

Members of the media are invited to attend.
