City of Portland to host community legislative informational night on Tuesday, November 19, 2019
All Portlanders are welcome to attend this community meeting starting at 6:30pm at Portland Community College’s Northeast campus
WHAT: The City of Portland strives to expand opportunities to connect with our community members about critical issues facing Portland in our State Legislature. Our Council commissioners, and our invited panelists of state and community leaders will hear about the issues most important for our community, and the state law and policy changes they want the City to prioritize.
“The process of identifying our most critical needs as a city is something every community member should have the opportunity to be a part of,” Mayor Ted Wheeler said. “Clearly developing those priorities first at a local level helps ensure success with our initiatives in the State Legislature.”
The Office of Government Relations, whose goal is to advance the City of Portland's legislative and intergovernmental policy objectives, will be offering an overview of the legislative process and introduce the community to advocacy resources.
“Portlanders know best what their communities experience and need from their elected officials,” says Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty. “I’m always delighted to be a part of these community engagement events to hear directly from our constituents beyond the 2-3 minutes allotted for city hall testimony.”
Our invited panel of state and community leaders will be sharing their agenda priorities and providing feedback to the Portland Community about how to maximize their advocacy impact at the legislature.
“This is an opportunity for community members to tell my Council colleagues and me which issues the City should be prioritizing this upcoming legislative session,” said Commissioner Amanda Fritz. “We are deeply committed to meaningful community engagement, and I look forward to the information exchange and creation of partnerships this session has fostered every year.”
The Office of Commissioner Fritz will facilitate the Community Forum where attendees will be able to share their legislative priorities with Mayor Wheeler, Commissioner Fritz and Commissioner Hardesty.
