Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler to host forum on community safety and livability in Lents

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler will lead a panel of law enforcement experts and officials to address community safety and livability in the Lents neighborhood. The Lents Town Hall will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Portland Police Bureau’s Gun Violence Reduction Team (GVRT) and Detective Division will be in attendance to share what is being done to prevent gun violence and to listen to community concerns on the subject. Representatives from the city’s One Point of Contact program and the Police Bureau’s East Precinct will also be present to update residents on the city’s efforts to improve livability in the neighborhood and to answer questions.

The goal of the forum is to engage community members and listen to their concerns regarding incidents of gun violence in Lents. The meeting is part of Mayor Wheeler’s ongoing commitment to increase safety measures for residents in Lents and all of East Portland.

“East Portland is today the heart and soul of the City of Portland. I look forward to listening to the residents’ concerns, their hopes and their ideas for enhancing livability in their neighborhoods,” Mayor Wheeler said. “My goal as Mayor is to make the lives of all Portlanders better, and that specifically includes those who live and work in East Portland.”
