City of Portland Becomes 4^th Major City to Achieve Platinum Certification for Open Data Efforts

Portland joints Boston, Los Angeles and San Diego in earning Platinum certification from World Council on City Data

The City of Portland’s and open data and performance management efforts have earned global recognition with the City earning ISO 37120 Platinum certification from the World Council on City Data (WCCD). Portland is only the 4th major U.S. city to achieve this distinction, joining Boston, Los Angeles and San Diego. Portland was awarded WCCD ISO 37120 Platinum Certification based on the recommendation of an independent third-party verifier who reviewed the City’s data.

The City of Portland currently tracks results across City services to inform budget, management, and policy decisions. The data also evaluates progress towards long-terms goals in documents like the Climate Action Plan and The Portland Plan. With the certification, the City of Portland joins a network of cities that are setting bold goals for their communities—and demonstrate that they are working to achieve these with data-driven strategies. WCCD member cities are leaders in sustainability, resiliency, and “smart city” technology practices. Joining this peer group of cities enables Portland to evaluate our quality of life as we invest in city services to enhance public safety, housing options, and livability.

WCCD hosts a global platform for independently verified, standardized city data and is the certification body responsible for implementing the first international data standard for cities, ISO 37120 Sustainable development of communities – indicators for city services and quality of life. Globally standardized city data drives a culture of progress and allows for innovative solutions to travel across this rapidly growing network of WCCD ISO 37120 certified cities. ISO 37120 includes 100 indicators based on 17 themes showcased on the WCCD Open City Data Portal, enabling comparability and best practices for cities throughout the world.
