FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

APPLICATION PROCESS RE-OPENS FOR MARATHON PRODUCER

While the applicants for producing next year’s marathon in Portland were strong, the City is looking for a bolder vision - one that reflects a world class event that will showcase all that Portland has to offer. The City decided to revise some of the constraints and reopen the application process. Our marathon is more than just a running event. It’s a beloved yearly tradition that brings in friends and family from all over the world to one of the most popular tourist cities in the country.

“We have a rare opportunity to start over again and design a marathon that evolves and elevates this long-standing Portland tradition. I, along with Commissioner Eudaly, are calling for event producers to submit their RFI’s (Request for Information) to PBOT starting today” said Mayor Wheeler.

“The Alliance commends Mayor Wheeler and Commissioner Eudaly for seeking an operator to lead a successful marathon year after year. A marathon in Portland with bold vision will bolster local businesses by attracting national and international competitors, along with spectators that can patronize our prized restaurants, accommodations, and diverse shopping experiences. The selected applicant should have strong financial management, internal and external oversight mechanisms, a comprehensive staffing model, robust volunteer program and extensive experience in athletic event management, as well as a familiarity with our unique and diverse communities.” Andrew Hoan, President & CEO, Portland Business Alliance

We look forward to hearing a variety of ideas, one that leverages our community’s global reputation as a destination city for runners.
