Mayor Ted Wheeler to Announce New Trash Initiative in Downtown Portland
The announcement comes as the first official initiative of Mayor Wheeler’s plan to tackle trash in Portland.
Portland, OR – Mayor Ted Wheeler will join leaders of the Clean & Safe District to make a special announcement regarding garbage in downtown Portland on Thursday, October 11 at 10 am in Director Park.
The event will also recognize 30 years of this special public-private partnership, honoring four outstanding members of the Clean & Safe team and recognizing the 2018 Downtown Champion.
Mayor Ted Wheeler, along with Central City Concern’s president and CEO Dr. Rachel Solotaroff, Clean & Safe board chair Eric Murfitt and Portland Business Alliance’s president and CEO Andrew Hoan, will be in attendance.

About the Clean & Safe District:
Downtown’s Clean & Safe District was created 30 years ago to support additional cleaning and security in the central city. The district, funded by downtown property owners, includes 213 blocks in the central city. The district’s cleaning work is conducted through a partnership with Central City Concern, as part of a homeless to work program; and the security team consists of many retired Portland Police officers with community policing experience. http://cleanandsafepdx.com/
