City Council Sends Measure to Increase Auditor Independence to Voters

Reform measure will appear on May ballot

PORTLAND, OR – Mayor Ted Wheeler and Auditor Mary Hull Caballero released the following joint statement on today’s decision by the City Council to send a measure increasing the independence of the City Auditor to voters for approval. The measure will appear on the May ballot.

“We share the view that the City Auditor plays a vital role in improving our government, and that increased independence will allow the Auditor to better serve this critical function. Our collaboration on this measure is a positive example that pragmatic problem-solving is not an endangered species in Portland government. The voters now have a chance to have their say on this historic reform measure.”
