Outdoor rebate application

Requirements and eligibility

To get a rebate, you must:

• Have an active drinking water account with the Portland Water Bureau. If you don't know your water provider, use this water provider look-up tool from the Regional Water Providers Consortium. 
• Purchase and install rebate eligible hardware.
• Get required annual backflow testing for in-ground irrigation systems. Up-to-date testing results must be from within the past year. 

Application must be received within 1 year of purchase date.

Rebates will be applied as a credit to your Portland Water Bureau drinking water account. The total rebate will not exceed the hardware purchase cost. 

WaterSense-labeled irrigation controllers

Apply for one controller rebate per Portland Water Bureau drinking water account. Get up to $100 for single-family residential customers and up to $500 for multifamily residential and commercial customers. 

Your new controller must be installed on an irrigation system with a testable backflow assembly. Annual required backflow testing must be up to date (within the past year).

Use the EPA WaterSense product search to confirm your new controller is rebate eligible. 

WaterSense-labeled hose faucet controllers

Apply for up to two $50 hose faucet controller rebates per Portland Water Bureau drinking water account. Customers enrolled in our financial assistance program can apply for up to two $75 rebates per account. 

Eligible hose faucet controllers must be installed with a backflow protection device. You must provide photo evidence of installation.

Use the EPA WaterSense product search to confirm your new controller is rebate eligible. 

Water efficient multi-stream rotator nozzles or WaterSense-labeled spray sprinkler bodies

Single-family residential customers can apply for up to 32 total $3 multi-stream nozzle or WaterSense sprinkler body rebates per account.

Multifamily residential and commercial customers can apply for up to 96 total $3 multi-stream nozzle or WaterSense sprinkler body rebates per account. 

Multi-stream rotator nozzles:

• Hunter MP Rotator Series: 800, 1000, 2000, 3000, 3500, MP corners and strips, Pro-Spray
• Rainbird R-VAN Series: R-VAN14, R-VAN18, R-VAN24, R-VAN corners and strips
• TORO Precision Series: PRN-TA, PRN-TF, 570Z, pressure compensation spray series: 0-5, 0-8, 0-10, 0-12, 0-15, and Arc

Annual required backflow testing must be up to date (within the past year).

How to get an outdoor rebate

1. Purchase rebate eligible hardware.

   Make sure to keep your receipts. Rebates are for hardware only and will not cover costs for installation. Your receipt must include purchase date, per item purchase price, quantity purchase, and model information.

2. Install hardware and make sure backflow testing is up to date

   Irrigation hardware must be installed at the physical address on your Portland Water Bureau drinking water account.

   For in-ground irrigation systems, annual backflow testing must be up to date to get a rebate. You must have a testable backflow protection assembly with up-to-date backflow inspection results from within the past year. Backflow assemblies are required to be installed on the water service connections to all landscape sprinkler systems. Backflow assemblies must be tested annually by a state-certified backflow assembly tester. Find more information about required backflow protection.

3. Apply for your rebate.

   You will need the items below to complete your application:

• A copy of the purchase receipt or invoice for your new rebate eligible irrigation hardware. Receipt must include purchase date, per item purchase price, quantity purchase, and model information.
• Date of most recent backflow test for in-ground irrigation systems or photo evidence of backflow protection installation for WaterSense hose faucet controllers. 
• Your Portland Water Bureau drinking water account number.
