Get a rebate from the Portland Water Bureau when you replace a water-cooled ice machine with an ENERGY STAR certified air-cooled model. ENERGY STAR commercial air-cooled ice machines are up to 80 percent more water efficient than water-cooled models.
This rebate form may take up to 15 minutes to complete. Rebates may take up to three months to appear as credit on your Portland Water Bureau drinking water account.
Requirements and eligibility
The rebate amount is 50 percent of the cost of the new eligible ice machine, up to a maximum of $3,000.
To get a rebate, you must:
- Have an active Portland Water Bureau drinking water account. If you don't know your water provider, use this water provider look-up tool from the Regional Water Providers Consortium.
- Replace an existing water-cooled ice machine with an ENERGY STAR certified air-cooled model.
Rebates will be applied as a credit to your Portland Water Bureau drinking water account.
Installation costs are not included in the rebate.
How to get an ENERGY STAR ice machine rebate
Review your current equipment and get preapproved for the rebate.
You must have an existing water-cooled ice machine at your property. The new ice machine you plan to buy must be an ENERGY STAR certified air-cooled ice machine. Use the ENERGY STAR product finder to find an eligible model.
Before you make your purchase, you must contact the Portland Water Bureau's water efficiency group. Preapproval is required and may include inspection of the existing water-cooled ice machine and verification of the installed air-cooled ice machine.

Purchase and install your new ENERGY STAR air-cooled ice machine.
Make sure to keep your receipts. Your new air-cooled ice machine must be installed at the physical address on your Portland Water Bureau drinking water account.
Recycle your water-cooled ice machine.
Recycle your water-cooled ice machine through one of the recyclers listed below. Make sure to get a receipt as proof of recycling.

Apply for your rebate.
Application must be received within 90 days of purchase date.
You will need the items below to complete your application:
- A copy of the purchase receipt for your new ENERGY STAR air-cooled ice machine. Receipt must include purchase date, purchase price, and model name or number.
- Proof of recycling for your water-cooled ice machine.
- Your Portland Water Bureau drinking water account number.
