Custom water efficiency incentive

Looking for ways to save water and money at your commercial facility, business, restaurant, or multi-family property? The Portland Water Bureau's custom water efficiency rebate program will pay for half of your approved water efficiency project costs up to a maximum of $5,000.

The form may take up to 20 minutes to complete. Rebates can take up to a full billing cycle to appear on the water account.

How to get a custom rebate:

Step 1 - Make sure you are eligible.

You must have an active City of Portland commercial or multi-family sewer, stormwater, water account.The project must be located on a property billed for sewer, stormwater, water. This is a reimbursement program. The rebate will be issued after the project is completed and approved. There is a $5,000 rebate limit per business.

Step 2 - Select qualifying equipment and schedule a project review for preapproval. 

Describe details about the equipment or process you will update to improve water efficiency. Projects must utilize Energy Star or WaterSense-labeled products when available.

A project preapproval review is required to get the rebate. This survey includes an evaluation of the equipment or process to be replaced. Step 3 - Complete the application form along with the project budget worksheet and get notice of approval or rejection of project.

Follow the link below to complete the rebate application. You will need your sewer, stormwater, water account number, project equipment details or outline of process improvement, and your project budget details.

Step 4 - Complete upgrades, recycle old equipment, and save your receipt. 

Your project must meet all applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations. Applicant is responsible for obtaining any required permits or approvals from the appropriate regulating bodies. The installed equipment must remain in use for at least five years or be replaced by a process or equipment that achieves an equal or greater level of water savings.

You must recycle old fixtures, appliances, or machinery when possible. Please provide proof for any old equipment that was recycled.

Step 5 - Schedule a post-project review and get your rebate.

Water efficiency staff must review the completed project before issuing a rebate. Rebates are posted as a credit to the sewer, stormwater, water account on record for the property and may take a full billing cycle to appear on the account.
