Engineering and design
Portland is building a new filtration facility to keep our water safe and abundant for generations to come. The new filtration facility will remove the microorganism Cryptosporidium and must be completed by 2027 to comply with state and federal water quality rules.

Under construction
Portland Water Bureau will have improved treatment facilities to make Portland’s water less corrosive to lead and other metals found in home and building plumbing by April 2022.

2015 - 2025
Under construction
The Portland Water Bureau is replacing reservoirs that have served the city since 1894 with a new 12.4-million gallon, seismically reinforced underground reservoir.

2016-2023
Engineering and design
The Willamette River Crossing Project, which will build an earthquake-resilient water line deep under the Willamette River, is part of the Water Bureau’s commitment to preparedness. This new pipe is critical in making sure we can get water to the west side of the Willamette after an earthquake.
