South Harbor Way water main replacement

Closeout
The Water Bureau has replaced a water main (pipe) and installed two new water valves. The new valves mean that when we need to do repairs, we can close off a smaller part of the system, reducing the number of people impacted.
Three construction workers in bright vests and hard hats dig use shovels to dig chunks of broken up concrete out of a trench. A new pipe will be placed in the trench when work is complete.

S Harbor Way water main replacement

Project overview

In early 2021, the Water Bureau installed two water valves and removed and replaced the water main in South Harbor Way.

Why

The existing main was aging, had leaks, and needed to be replaced. We installed new valves to reduce the number of people impacted by water shutoffs associated with this and future repairs. (Water valves start and stop the flow of water through pipes.)
