Portland Heights pump replacement

Water
Under Construction
The Water Bureau will replace a pump at the Portland Heights Pump Station. Inspections show that the pump’s motor, installed nearly 30 years ago, is declining and needs to be replaced. Replacing this pump will provide the area with a more reliable water supply now and into the future.

Project overview

The Water Bureau has hired a contractor to replace a pump and motor at the Portland Heights Pump Station. The contractor will need to use a crane from Talbot Road to remove and replace the pump (the pump is in an area with too little space for equipment to access it from our property).

Why

This project is an investment in our water system to make it stronger, more flexible, and better prepared for challenges. Inspections show that the pump’s motor is declining and needs to be replaced. The new pump will provide the area with a more reliable water supply now and into the future.

Happening now

New pump installation: Installation of the new pump will take place starting August 30 through the beginning of September.

Our contractor began final installation of the pump during the last week of July, but had to postpone some work due to a supply shortage of a key material needed to complete the project. We have now received the needed supplies and plan to complete final installation the week of August 30.

When work starts, a crane and trucks will be placed in Southwest Talbot Road for two to five days to lift the new pump into place and traffic will be reduced to one lane.
