Field data is helping fine-tune planned pipe routes

Blog Post
Using field data gathered over the past year, we’ve fine-tuned the routes for planned Bull Run Filtration pipelines to reduce the number of new intertie facilities needed. The updated routes also limit pipeline construction impacts on the intersection of Altman Road and Dodge Park Boulevard.

Design continues to evolve for new pipes that will connect the planned water filtration facility to the existing Bull Run water system. Using field data about soils and other route conditions, the design team refined the planned finished water pipe routes to follow a single path using public rights-of-way and an existing access road across private property.

New pipes need new intertie facilities to connect to the existing pipes in the area. The existing pipes are large-diameter water conduits we’ve operated in the area for more than a century, and connecting new, modern pipes to the old ones isn't an easy task.

The fine-tuned routes mean we only need one new intertie rather than the two initially considered. The refined routes also benefit the community by reducing planned construction impacts on the busy SE Altman Road and SE Dodge Park Boulevard intersection near Scenic Fruit Company.

We’ll continue reaching out and sharing information with property owners along the planned routes as design moves forward. We also recently selected the Bull Run Conveyance Partners as the contractor for the pipelines. We’re beginning to get their early input on construction to refine design.

We plan for the water filtration facility and pipelines to be online in 2027, serving filtered water to our residential and wholesale customers near the project location as well as our customers in the Portland metropolitan area.
