Accessibility at Spectator Venues

Label: Information
Every individual should be able to enjoy entertainment at Portland venues. To make sure that’s possible, the City’s Spectator Venues Program is committed to ensuring that sports and cultural venues meet modern accessibility standards.

The Spectator Venues Program works closely with the Office of Equity and Human Rights to track and report on Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. Many venues need ADA upgrades, which require funding.

Since 2019, the Spectator Venues Program has worked with operators to eliminate or mitigate over 500 barriers to accessibility at City-owned facilities. Renovations of the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, which will be implemented between 2024 and 2026, will address several hundred additional identified potential barriers.

The City also strives to make its venues financially accessible for community events. The operating agreements for Providence Park and the Veterans Memorial Coliseum contain provisions allowing community-oriented use of the facilities at reduced costs.
