When Is a Heritage Tree Permit Required?

  • A permit is required prior to any work that impacts a Heritage tree. 

Timeline and Process

For current information on processing times, please refer to Alert articles or contact Urban Forestry via the Tree Hotline 503-823-TREE (8733) or email trees@portlandoregon.gov.  Incomplete applications will delay the process. 

After the completed application has been received:

  1. An Urban Forestry Tree Inspector will visit the tree to determine if the proposed work can be approved. 

Heritage tree permits are generally valid for one calendar year
