Urban Forestry Priority Service Areas

Label: Information
Urban Forestry uses data to prioritize services in Portland neighborhoods that need them most.

Trees cool our homes during record-breaking summer heat, clean our air, and make our neighborhoods safer, calmer, and healthier. But not everyone benefits equally. Some neighborhoods have fewer trees and face greater risks from extreme heat and climate impacts.

Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry uses tree canopy and economic data to determine priority service areas for tree planting and care, education, and community partnerships. This focuses resources where they will provide the greatest benefit for the most vulnerable residents. Prioritizing work in these areas is about fairness, health, and ensuring every Portland neighborhood is a great place to live.

Neighborhoods receive a priority ranking of 1-3, with 1 being the highest, aligning with the citywide Tree Planting Strategy, Portland Urban Forest Plan, and Climate Action Plan canopy and equity goals. Data are updated every three years.
