  • Hybrid created in France circa 1820. A cross between M. denudata and M. liliiflora. Many cultivars exist.

  • Height does not exceed 50’ but the spread does.

  • Leaves have smooth margins and are about 6” long.

  • Flowers are tulip-like at first, then open to a “saucer” shape of 6” with 9 petals.

  • Fruit matures to scarlet seeds.

  • Fall color is insignificant.

  • Common in Portland.
