Meet the Contractors

Urban Forestry is excited to introduce our 2024 Yard Tree Giveaway (YTG) Outreach Contracts! Outreach Contractors assist Urban Forestry to promote the YTG program, by promoting the program through their networks and events and helping register people for trees. These contracts are funded through the Portland Clean Energy Fund's (PCEF) Community Partnership Program. Groups are chosen for these contracts because they are connected to underserved communities and communities living in our priority service areas.

These yearly contracts are necessary to help us reach more people as we increase the number of trees we giveaway to 10,000 over the next few years. These groups demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the public in our priority service areas. We are excited to be working with these groups and we look forward to having them help us get trees planted in the areas that need them most. Here’s an introduction to each of our partners in their own words. And if you see them out in the community, be sure to thank them for the important work they do!

Centennial Community Association

Centennial Community Associationand Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood Association are partners with Thrive East PDX, in a community coalition whose mission is to facilitate and support the community resilience programs that benefit all residents of Portland District 1 in East Portland. We believe green infrastructure from trees and native plants is essential to the health and well-being of our communities.

We are glad to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Urban Forestry division to add to the tree cover and enhance shade equity in these neighborhoods. District 1 includes many neighborhoods where the tree canopy is under 20% and existing mature trees are being lost to development and transportation projects that remove trees.

Green Lents

Green Lents' mission is to cultivate a thriving, resilient, and environmentally-just community through engagement, education and collective action in Lents and outer SE Portland. The heart of our organization is our Community Tool Library on SE Ramona and 92nd, but we also have many projects throughout the neighborhood aimed at creating green spaces for pollinators and for people. We are excited to work with Urban Forestry on the Yard Tree Giveaway which is near and dear to our mission, and it is fun to see the enthusiasm matched by our community.

Taking Ownership

Taking Ownershipis a Black-led reparations program whose mission is to assist in the creation of healthy homes for Black homeowners via no-cost home improvements, and various programs that sustainably empower Black communities.” We understand that the effects of climate change disproportionately affect minorities and marginalized communities, and so we are excited at the opportunity to help develop tree canopy in typically overlooked communities and neighborhoods.
