Join Urban Forestry and the Oregon Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (OCAPIA) for a Lunar New Year tree planting event and celebration at Gates Park.
Lunar New Year is celebrated on the first new moon of the lunar and lunisolar calendars by various Asian and Pacific Islander nations. In addition to planting trees, there will be short speeches from OCAPIA Commissioners Joselito Tanega and Sam Phan. After planting, there will be time to mix and mingle with other volunteers while enjoying some Lunar New Year treats, crafts, and games. This is a great event for the whole family.
For the comfort and safety of all participants, please leave your pets at home.
Before attending any event: if you are not feeling well, have a temperature above 100.4ᵒ or receive a recommendation to self-isolate – please stay home.
Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry's mission is to manage and ensure Portland's urban forest infrastructure for current and future generations. Portland’s urban forest consists of 220,000 street trees, 1.2 million park trees, and nearly 3 million private property trees.
Urban Forestry is involved in managing or regulating all of these trees to differing degrees. Urban Forestry staff issue permits for planting, pruning, and removal of all public and some private trees and are on call 24/7 to respond to tree emergencies.
