Urban Forestry Overview

Urban Forestry partners with contractors to plant, care for, and maintain Portland's Trees. Our work supports healthy urban forest, safer streets, and greener neighborhoods. We welcome businesses of all sizes and are committed to reducing barriers to participation.

Contractors support a wide range of Urban Forestry programs, including Tree Planting and Establishment Programs, Street Tree Care, and community-based planting initiatives. This page provides an overview of the types of work we contract and how to connect with upcoming opportunities.

Work We Contract

Urban Forestry partners with contractors to support Portland's trees through planting, establishment care, maintenance, and community-based projects. Most of this work is funded through the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF). The sections below provide a high-level overview and link to program pages with additional details. 

Tree Planting & Establishment Programs

Contractors plant new street trees and provide three years of establishment care. Work includes watering, weeding, mulching, and monitoring young trees to ensure they survive and thrive. These projects focus on expanding tree canopy in neighborhoods with the greatest need.

Street Tree Care

Contractors provide pruning, removals, safety and risk mitigation, and storm response services. Many tasks require ISA-certified arborists and specialized equipment. This work helps reduce risk, improve tree health, and keep streets safe and accessible.

PCEF-Funded Projects

Most Urban Forestry planting and care projects are funded through the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF). These projects support climate action community benefits, and equitable investment in Portland's neighborhoods.

Citywide Procurement Requirements

Urban Forestry follows all City of Portland procurement rules. Supplier registration, open solicitations, and citywide contracting requirements are managed by Procurement Services.
