  • Native to China.

  • In the wild can exceed 100’.

  • Needles are very sharp and 2-ranked along stem; entire branches can turn brown making it look unhealthy.

  • Cones about 1.5” long, prickly, and grow in clusters.

  • Often multi-trunked.

  • Not common in Portland.
