- Height is usually less than 100’.
- Leaflets are 5 and make a palmate leaf.
- Flowers are inconspicuous, yellowish, 8”-long clusters.
- Nut husks are long and prickly.
- Fall color is brown-red to orange.
- Very rare in Portland.
