The City of Portland’s treasurer will hold a foreclosure sale of vacant and neglected properties located throughout Portland. The sale will take place in-person at Portland City Hall at 1221 SW 4th Ave. on Monday, June 16, at noon. The foreclosure list currently includes six privately-owned properties, all greenlit for foreclosure by Portland City Council.

The City of Portland is committed to resolving outstanding issues for properties and inviting new bidders to consider investment opportunities.

1300 N River St is currently on the City's foreclosure list.

"Vacant and distressed properties often present major problems for the neighbors and neighborhoods in our community. When property owners are unwilling to work with us to correct the code violations, foreclosure sales are one tool that can help move properties back into productive use” said Kevin Foster the City’s foreclosure prevention manager.

Included in the June 16 sale are a few properties that have been included in previous foreclosure sales without attracting winning bids. Some new properties will also be included, all presenting a unique opportunity for buyers interested in investing in Portland's neighborhoods.

Properties are recommended for the foreclosure process after months to years of unpaid code violation fines and liens. Decisions about seeking foreclosure are also based on a property’s negative or unsafe neighborhood impacts. The City’s code enforcement program is complaint-driven. Learn more or report a code violation online.

Last year, Portland City Council voted to amend the foreclosure process, shortening the redemption period from one year to three months—the final window of time a property owner has to pay off their outstanding liens, penalties and interest and redeem ownership of their property after it is auctioned-off.

*The property list and minimum bid amounts are subject to change. Property owners may still pay off outstanding balances before the sale, which would remove their property from the list. Minimum bid amounts will be updated on Friday, June 13, 2025. The list linked above will remain updated.

Bidding Information

  • All properties are sold “as is”
  • The City does not own or manage the properties and cannot offer access to buildings or land before the sale

To bid, you must have the following with you at the start of the sale:

  • Legal identification, such as a valid driver's license
  • U.S. legal currency or a cashier's check made out to the City of Portland in an amount that covers a winning bid; winning bidders must pay in full at the time of the sale. If a cashier's check is in an amount above the winning bid, the City of Portland will process a refund of the difference.
