Thank you for your interest in the Portland Bureau of Transportation's NE Shaver Sidewalk project. Below is an update on construction and anticipated impacts.
Construction begins week of July 8 to build new sidewalk and improved crossings on NE Shaver Street between 115th Avenue and Parkrose Middle School
Beginning this week, crews will work to construct a sidewalk on the south side of NE Shaver between NE 115th Avenue and the Parkrose Middle School campus.
During construction, vehicle lanes on NE Shaver Street will be narrowed, but travel will be maintained in both directions. Pedestrian access will be provided with cones or barricades around active work areas.
When work is completed, a new 6-foot sidewalk, seven new or updated curb ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and a marked crosswalk at NE 115th Avenue will improve pedestrian access for Parkrose students and neighbors. Ten new street trees will be planted along the project area.
Anticipated impacts
The traveling public is advised to expect delays. We request that you travel slowly and cautiously in work zones, observe all detours and directions by reader boards and flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible.
The public can expect dust, noise, vibrations, and heavy equipment near the work zone.
As always, please keep crews safe by following all traffic control signs and flaggers while travelling through or near work zones.
This work is weather-dependent, and the schedule may change.
Project Background
The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) identified this segment of NE Shaver Street as an important connection for students attending Parkrose Middle School. Walking routes and challenging connections were highlighted by school communities during a Safe Routes to School outreach process held throughout 2017. Together with the neighboring project, NE Shaver Sidewalk from NE 102nd to 115th Avenues, access for people walking along NE Shaver Street will be greatly improved.
This project is funded by the Fixing Our Streets 10-cent citywide gas tax approved by voters in May 2016 and again in May 2020 and 2024.
PBOT will provide periodic updates throughout construction. To sign up for construction updates, visit portland.gov/Shaver-Sidewalk-2024.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience during construction.
