Apply to Install Bike Racks on the Sidewalk

Label: Service
In commercial districts, PBOT can install up to two FREE bike racks on the sidewalk in front of your property, but not on private property. Bike racks provide convenient bike parking for employees, visitors, and shoppers. Additional racks may be installed for a cost of $188 each.

This application should take 5-10 minutes to complete.

Gather your information

You will need to provide us with your contact information. You must inquire with your property owner or management company about your desire to install bike racks, and indicate you have spoken with them on the request form. Be prepared to provide a detailed description of where you would like the bike racks installed. Actual placement will be determined after doing an onsite assessment by us. You can upload pictures if desired.

To read more about the city's administrative rule governing these permits, go to TRN-10.09 - Bicycle Rack Permit.

Please note: if you are renovating or developing your property and are required to provide short-term bike parking, you cannot apply for bike racks from PBOT to meet your permit requirements. You must provide your own bike racks on the footprint of your property, or pay into the city's Bike Parking Fund. Please refer to Bicycle Rack Zoning Code for the City of Portland for more information about development code requirements.
