If you are living in your vehicle – passenger vehicle, motorhome, trailer, boat, tiny home on wheels, etc. – and your vehicle is towed or if your vehicle is towed from a camp site, you will be required to pay the following tow fee to retrieve the vehicle along with all other release requirements – show proof of ownership, and proof of insurance and a valid driver's license if you are driving the vehicle from the tow lot.
Tow Fees
- Small and medium RVs, boats, tiny homes, and passenger vehicles - $250.00
- Large RVs - $353.00
Process to Retrieve a Recreational Vehicle or Property from a Recreational Vehicle
Obtain a release from the Portland Police Bureau: Show proof of ownership along with proof of insurance and proof of a valid driver's license if the vehicle will be driven from the tow lot. Follow the instructions on obtaining your towed vehicle or obtaining property from your vehicle here.
Once obtaining the release, call 503-823-1292 and leave a message to make an appointment to meet a PBOT employee at the tow lot where you will pay the proper fee and retrieve your recreational vehicle. We will accept payment by cash, credit card, debit card, or money order. No checks.
Process to Retrieve a Passenger Vehicle or Property from a Passenger Vehicle
Go directly to the tow the lot where the vehicle is being stored. Show proof of ownership along with proof of insurance and proof of a valid driver's license if the vehicle will be driven from the tow lot. Pay the tow company directly and retrieve your passenger vehicle. Follow the instructions on obtaining property from your vehicle here.

Towing Fee Financial Assistance
If you are unable to pay the tow fee, there may be financial assistance available if you are the registered owner of the vehicle. You must apply for assistance within five business days of the vehicle being towed. To see if you qualify, visit apply for a towing hardship.
Unclaimed Vehicles
If a vehicle is not claimed, the vehicle owner is liable to the City for all costs and expenses incurred in the towing, storage, administrative, and demolition of a hazardous or abandoned vehicle and its contents when the City tows a vehicle under the authority of City Code 16.30.520 and ORS Chapter 819. The City's current costs to demolish an RV are $97.00 a linear foot. Based on that, demolition costs for a 30' RV are $2,910.00 plus tow fees.
