Over the past week Oregon has witnessed historic wildfires that pushed an unprecedented amount of smoke into Portland, leading to an air quality advisory lasting nearly a week. To protect the health of our workers, construction work had to be stopped on SE 136th Avenue, which will create some small delays in the schedule.

SE 136th Avenue remains closed between SE Harold Street and SE Holgate Boulevard, as crews continue to excavate the roadway in preparation for repaving. Due to wildfire smoke, we expect that closure to continue through the end of next week as crews restart and complete the work, thereby extending the road closure a bit longer than first announced.

Work crews will also soon return to the ongoing work of excavating, forming, and pouring sidewalk on the west side of the street between SE Foster Street and Powell Boulevard. The traffic separators for the protected bike lanes along the newly paved section of roadway from SE Powell Boulevard to Division Street will also be installed soon. Work on the separators should be complete in early October, weather permitting.
