Project Scope & Background

The Portland Bureau of Transportation's (PBOT) 2022 Traffic Signals Superbundle project will construct seven new signalized crossings:

  • SW Naito Parkway & SW Whitaker Street - Rectangular rapid flashing beacon
  • SE 52nd Avenue & SE Woodstock Street - Full traffic signal replacement
  • NE MLK Boulevard & NE Going Street - Half signal (stops traffic on MLK to aid crossing)
  • E Burnside Street & SE 16th Avenue - Rectangular rapid flashing beacon on mast arms above street
  • SE Washington Street & SE 86th Avenue - Rectangular rapid flashing beacon mounted on sidewalk
  • SE 148th Avenue & SE Main Street - Pedestrian hybrid beacon (stops traffic on 148th to aid crossing)
  • NE Glisan Street & NE 113th Avenue - Pedestrian hybrid beacon (stops traffic on Glisan to aid crossing)
  • Plus street lighting on NE Glisan Street from NE 82nd to NE 162nd Streets

PBOT will also construct related ADA and stormwater improvements as part of the project.

Most of the traffic signals in the 2022 Signals Superbundle project emerged from the 2017 Safe Routes to Schools public involvement effort and will help children cross busy streets to get to school. Each traffic signal has its own dedicated funding source, including from Fixing Our Streets, System Development Charges (SDCs), general fund, and Cannabis Tax.
