The N Greeley Multi-Use Path will be, a two-way, one-mile path on the east side of N Greeley Avenue from N Going Street to N Interstate Avenue. The two-way bicycle and pedestrian facility will be protected from vehicle traffic with continuous concrete barriers. N Greeley Avenue will also be repaved.
What's Happening Now?
Construction on the N Greeley Multi-Use Path and Paving Project is underway. The street pavement is currently being replaced and a construction detour is in place.
People biking are asked to use the designated bicycle detour on N Interstate Avenue and Willamette Boulevard during construction. The detour is expected to remain in place for the duration of construction, which is estimated to be completed by late-winter, early-spring 2020.
PBOT traffic engineers will be monitoring traffic in the area closely and will make adjustments to the traffic control plan as necessary to accommodate freight and other traffic accessing Swan Island, which has been impacted by the lane closures on the N Going Street Bridge following the Union Pacific train derailment earlier this year.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation is building the N Greeley Multi-Use Path, a two-way, one-mile path on the east side of N Greeley Avenue from N Going Street to N Interstate Avenue. The two-way bicycle and pedestrian facility will be protected from vehicle traffic with continuous concrete barriers. The project will also repave the entire width of N Greeley through the project area.
N Greeley Avenue is a busy, high-speed road with heavy freight vehicle traffic. This project will protect cyclists and pedestrians behind a continuous concrete barrier connecting North Portland neighborhoods and businesses with the Rose Quarter. In addition, the project will widen the outside lanes to better accommodate truck traffic and increase the buffer between opposing traffic lanes.
N Going St: Cyclists will move diagonally across the intersection with a new bike signal.
At the south end of the project, the continuous concrete barrier will tie in to the existing barrier.
Proposed cross section includes a 11.5-12’ multi-use path, a 12’ northbound travel lane, two 10.5’ travel lanes, and a 12-13’ southbound travel lane.
The total project budget is $1,800,000. The project is funded by a City Council-approved Major Maintenance Set-Aside as well as the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax through the voter-approved Fixing Our Streets.
