On July 21, 2021, Portland City Council adopted the ADA Title II Public Right-of-Way Transition Plan. The Plan provides a framework for continuous improvement of the public right-of-way and related PBOT programs to bring them into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Building a Better 82nd

A critical north-south connection and one of Portland’s high-crash corridors, 82nd Avenue is in urgent need of significant investment to improve safety and address maintenance issues. As of June 2022, the state transferred ownership of 82nd Avenue to the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT).

Exploring future potential transit service to Montgomery Park in NW Portland and to Hollywood Town Center in NE Portland, and opportunities for housing and jobs in these corridors and areas. While work on the alignments to Hollywood has concluded, work on NW area continues in Summer and Fall 2023.

Street Plaza Program

The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is developing a permanent program for public street plazas. Plazas give right-of-way space back to pedestrians. They also provide space for more outdoor seating, events, and programming open to the public.

Zero Emission Delivery Zone (SMART grant)

In 2023, Portland was awarded a U.S. Department of Transportation SMART grant to pilot a Zero Emission Delivery Zone and digital infrastructure tools. This PBOT project tests ways to create a safer, cleaner, more equitable transportation system while boosting economic opportunities.
