What's New for 2026?
- For most events in Plazas, the process will not be very different – you will just be able to apply via an online form. Coming soon!
- There will be fees for larger for-profit vending events or events with alcohol.
- Events involving alcohol will require insurance.
Where Can You Host a Community event in a Plaza?
The Plaza Program manages multiple spaces around Portland. Review the list* of our current street plazas and select a site to include in your application. As always email us with any additional questions.
*Requests are also available for:
- Lents Plaza (SE 91st Ave and SE Foster Rd)
- Kenton Plaza (N Denver Ave and Pacific Highway W)
- Stoll Plaza (NE 41st Avenue between NE Sandy Blvd and NE Broadway)
- Yamhill Plaza (SW Yamhill St Between SW 1st and 3rd Avenues)
Event Types
Free events with no vending: Simple events such as cultural gatherings, free community concerts, and game nights are welcome in public plazas. These requests are quick to process and free of charge. No event insurance required.
Events that include alcohol sales or vending: If a for-profit or nonprofit organization is planning an event that includes alcohol sales, additional documentation is required. This includes proof of event insurance, applicable fees, and a site plan identifying where alcohol will be served and monitored.
Please note: Nonprofit organizations that host farmers markets or vendor fairs are eligible for a free permit.
How to Apply
Download the application below and return it to PortlandStreetPlazas@portlandoregon.gov. Please allow 5 business days for our team to review and respond to your application.
Note: to ensure your event is featured in our newsletter, please email us at least one week before the first of each month.
Know the Rules
- Community Events in Plazas must be free and open to all members of the public. Excluding individuals from the plaza is prohibited unless they are violating posted plaza rules.
- Event organizers shall conduct themselves respectfully toward nearby residents and businesses and ensure that events do not cause undue disturbance.
- Organizers shall obtain any noise-related approvals or permits from the City Noise Office if amplified sound will exceed the levels provided in City Code or continue past 10:00 pm. Apply for a noise code variance.
- The permittee shall be responsible for all garbage removal related to events. PBOT may require event hosts provide additional garbage receptacles, depending on the size and nature of the event.
- Events will not obstruct pedestrian and bicycle thoroughfare or access to the plaza.
- Events will not obstruct the designated 12 foot emergency access lane. People are allowed in this area, but no tables, tents, or other objects may be placed in the emergency access lane.
- If food is offered, organizers must follow all Multnomah County Health Department rules and permitting guidelines for Temporary Food Events.
- Street Plaza areas are car-free spaces. All vehicles must park in designated parking areas only and must pay all applicable fees. If vehicle access is required to deliver heavy equipment, the vehicle must immediately leave the plaza after the drop-off or pick-up of that equipment. You must place all the traffic control signs and objects back in place as they were found. These traffic signs and objects must be in place before, during, and after your activation.
