Updates about Building a Better 82nd

PBOT staff joined community organization leaders and neighbors on a bike ride to the Jade Night Market this past weekend. The tour featured climate resiliency projects within the NE/SE 82nd Avenue corridor area, made possible by the Portland Clean Energy Benefits Fund (PCEF). Construction Updates
Overview: September 1 - 11
Over the next two weeks, PBOT contractors and PBOT crews will have several active work zones along NE/SE 82nd Avenue. One lane in each direction will remain open during construction. Travelers on NE/SE 82nd Avenue should expect delays, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Please travel safely through work zones and follow all flaggers, detour signs, and traffic control devices.
Details and traffic impacts
- NE Lombard– Signal communications work will require single lane closures on NE Lombard approaching 82nd Avenue. This work will complete prior to the closure of I-5 southbound.
- NE Jonesmore to Webster– Speed feedback sign installation at multiple locations will require intermittent lane closures on NE 82nd Avenue.
- NE Tillamook– Final concrete restoration at the corners will require lane closures on NE Tillamook and NE 82nd Avenue.
- NE Schuyler–Cabinet repair work will require a signal turn off and flagging of the intersection for one day.
- NE Glisan – Striping on NE Glisan approaching 82nd Avenue will require lane closures. Please note: The right lane approaching 82nd Avenue is now a shared lane for right-turning vehicles and through-moving buses and bikes. More details below.
- SE Tibbetts –Concrete median island and traffic separator construction will require the three middle lanes on 82nd Avenue to be closed. For safety, lane closures are required at all hours until concrete has cured. Roadway striping will require some nighttime lane closures and turn restrictions. We anticipate turning on the signal in mid-September.
- SE Lafayette–Concrete median island and traffic separator construction will require the three middle lanes on 82nd Avenue to be closed. For safety, lane closures are required at all hours until concrete has cured. Roadway striping will require some nighttime lane closures and turn restrictions. We anticipate turning on the signal in mid-September.
- SE Raymond–Concrete median island and traffic separator construction will require the three middle lanes on 82nd Avenue to be closed. For safety, lane closures are required at all hours until concrete has cured. Roadway striping will require some nighttime lane closures and turn restrictions. We anticipate turning on the signal in mid-September.
- SE Brooklyn to Foster– Roadway striping will require some nighttime lane closures and turn restrictions.
In addition to the above, contractors will complete punch list items throughout NE/SE 82nd Avenue. Remaining punch list items will require intermittent lane closures on 82nd Avenue.

NE Glisan Paving & Safety Project
New right-turn-only lanes at NE 82nd Avenue
PBOT's NE Glisan Paving & Safety Project is moving forward. Crews are currently repaving the south side of NE Glisan near NE 86th Avenue and will install new pavement markings as the fresh asphalt cures.
As part of planned safety improvements, PBOT has added new right-turn-only lanes (except for buses and bikes) on both sides of NE 82nd Avenue.
What drivers should expect:
- There is now one through‑lane for general vehicle traffic in each direction on NE Glisan Street.
- The right‑most lane is for right turns only, except buses and people biking may continue straight through the intersection in this lane.
- After traveling straight, buses will merge back into the general travel lane, and people biking will transition into newly-added buffered bike lanes.
Between 81st and 82nd avenues, NE Glisan Street includes a new buffered bike lane for westbound bicyclists and one general westbound travel lane. Eastbound, the street has one dedicated left‑turn lane, one through lane, and a new shared bike, bus, and right‑turn lane. Between 82nd and 83rd avenues, westbound travelers will use a new shared bike, bus, and right‑turn lane, one through lane, and one dedicated left‑turn lane. Eastbound, the street includes one general travel lane, dedicated space for the eastbound bus stop, and a new buffered bike lane.

82nd Avenue Transit Project Open House
Have you been wondering what is coming next to Line 72 and 82nd Avenue?
If so, join TriMet and PBOT for an in-person open house on Wednesday, September 16, 5 to 7 p.m. at CORE – Bar and Food Carts, 3612 SE 82nd Avenue.
Attendees can speak with project staff, explore updated plans for stations, shelters, transit improvements and safety features, ask site specific questions, and share feedback. The open house is an opportunity to see the changes coming to the corridor and learn what's ahead in the project schedule.
In addition, you can play TriMet trivia and we will raffle off Timbers tickets to those with the most knowledge about TriMet.
If you are unable to attend in person, a virtual open house is available at https://www.trimet.org/82nd/design. You can review plans online and answer our project survey through Wednesday, September 30.

CMGC Subcontractor Summit
Raimore Sundt Joint Venture (RSJV) is hosting its first CMGC Subcontractor Summit for subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners interested in opportunities on the TriMet 82nd Avenue Transit Project. The project is scheduled to break ground in 2027, and the summit will provide an opportunity to meet the RSJV project team, learn about upcoming scopes of work and procurement opportunities, understand TriMet's contracting requirements and inclusion of local/small businesses on the project. Connect with potential partners and industry peers.
