NE 82nd just got a little bit smoother! Last week, contractors with PBOT finished paving the west side curb lane on 82nd between Fremont and Beech streets (shown above). This week, they completed paving the remainder of the lanes. This marks the first section of paving work as part of the 82nd Avenue Major Maintenance Project. Photo by PBOT.

Construction updates

Overview: June 9 - 27

In the next three weeks, contractors with PBOT will have several active work zones along NE/SE 82nd Avenue and adjacent streets with lane closures and detours of side streets. One lane in each direction on 82nd Avenue will remain open during construction. People traveling on NE/SE 82nd Avenue can expect delays, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Please travel safely around work zones and pay attention to all flaggers, detour signs, and traffic control devices. Pedestrian routing will be in place around work zones.

Details and traffic impacts:

  • NE Beech to Fremont – Paving activities are complete and temporary striping will be in place for the next few weeks. Select pavement restoration south of Fremont intersection will require lane closures. Concrete island construction will require lane closures.
  • NE Siskiyou to Russell – Paving in this segment will begin June 16 and is expected to take two weeks. Driveway access will be impacted temporarily during outer lane excavation and paving, and contractors will coordinate with individual businesses to limit driveway access disruptions. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
  • NE Siskiyou – Pavement repair will require a full road closure of NE Siskiyou west of 82nd Avenue from Friday, June 20 – Monday, June 23. Vehicle traffic will be detoured to Fremont. The northern driveway entrance to the Glenhaven Park parking lot will remain open.
  • NE Russell to Thompson –  ADA ramp construction will require lane closures.
  • NE Tillamook – Underground storm work will require lane closures.
  • SE Mill – Paving will require a full road closure for two days in late June. Vehicle traffic will be detoured to Harrison.
  • SE Harrison – Utility relocations, underground electrical work and ADA corner ramp construction will require lane closures.
  • SE Clinton -  The Portland Water Bureau is installing a new main on SE Clinton between SE 85th and 87th avenues, access will be limited to local traffic.
  • SE Taggart – Underground work and ADA corner ramp construction will require lane closures.
  • SE 85th Avenue - Sidewalk construction between SE Brooklyn and Kelly streets will require lane closures.
  • SE Woodward – Sidewalk and driveway construction will require lane closures.
  • SE Brooklyn – Underground work and ADA corner ramp construction will require lane closures.
  • SE Tibbetts – Underground electrical work at 82nd Avenue and sidewalk infill between 78th and 81st avenues will require lane closures and local access only at times.

82nd Avenue Crossings Project update

Contractors are coordinating with utilities to power the new signals on NE 82nd Avenue at the intersections of Klickitat and Schuyler. New signals at SE Clinton and Schiller are active. Pedestrian crossings at NE Beech and SE Ash are also active.

Two new crossing improvements at the intersections of SE 82nd and Ramona and SE 82nd and Tolman will break ground in late summer or early fall.

Current funding will not cover the improvements at SE 82nd and Lambert at this time. The improvements at SE 82nd and Lambert have been designed and we have applied for additional federal funding for this intersection which will be constructed if the funds are awarded.
