Overview: May 27 - June 6
No work on Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day
PBOT's safety and maintenance upgrade of 82nd Avenue enters a new era, with months of work to provide new, smooth pavement and replace failing sections of roadway starting on Tuesday, May 27. Along NE/SE 82nd Avenue and adjacent streets, the traveling public can expect to see lane closures and detours of side streets. Please travel safely around work zones and pay attention to all flaggers, detour signs, and traffic control devices.
Details and traffic impacts:
- NE 82nd Avenue from Beech to Fremont - Roadway excavation and paving will require lane closures, side street closures, and driveway access interruptions. One lane in each direction on 82nd Avenue will remain open. Sidewalks will remain open.
- NE Fremont – NE Fremont will be closed to thru traffic between 81st and 83rd avenues, beginning Tuesday May 27 through Friday, June 6 during work hours, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Vehicle traffic, with the exception of TriMet busses, will be detoured. TriMet busses will be flagged through the intersection. Sidewalks will remain open to pedestrians and people biking.
- NE Siskiyou – NE Siskiyou will be closed to thru traffic between 82nd and 83rd during work hours, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 through Friday, May 30. Vehicle traffic will be detoured. Sidewalks will remain open to pedestrians and people biking.
- McDaniel High School entrance – ADA corner ramp work and sidewalk work will require lane closures.
- McDaniel High School southern driveway (near NE Russell) – reconstruction of the driveway will require lane closures. Driveway will remain open during construction, and will be completed half at a time.
- SE Mill – Underground work may require lane closures east of 82nd.
SE Harrison – Utility relocations, underground electrical work and ADA corner ramp construction will require lane closures. - SE Taggart – Underground work and ADA corner ramp construction will require lane closures.
- SE 85th Avenue - Work continues between SE Division and Brooklyn. Sidewalk construction on the west side of SE 85th will require lane closures. In addition, the Portland Water Bureau will be relocating water lines, requiring access to be limited at times to local traffic.
- SE Clinton - Roadway work continues on SE Clinton Street between SE 84th Place and 87th Avenue. In addition, the Portland Water Bureau will relocate water lines on SE Clinton west of SE 87th Avenue, requiring access to be limited at times to local traffic.
- SE Tibbetts – Sidewalk construction between SE 78th and 82nd avenues will require lane closures. Underground work at 82nd and Tibbetts will require lane closures.
- SE Brooklyn – Underground work and ADA corner ramp construction will require lane closures.
In addition to the above worksites, sump testing will take place at various locations with brief lane closures.

A smoother street is coming to two miles of NE/SE 82nd Avenue, with construction starting May 27
The maintenance overhaul of 82nd Avenue begins a new phase, with paving crews planning to repave two miles of the corridor from May through October 2025 and 2026. As a part of the 82nd Avenue Major Maintenance project, contractors with PBOT will begin paving segments of NE/SE 82nd Avenue on Tuesday, May 27, and paving activity will continue throughout the summers of 2025 and 2026.
The first section of paving will take place on NE 82nd Avenue between NE Beech and Fremont streets. Contractors will then pave additional segments on NE/SE 82nd between NE Siskiyou and NE Thompson and between SE Mill and SE Brooklyn.
One lane in each direction on 82nd Avenue will remain open during construction. People traveling on NE/SE 82nd Avenue can expect delays, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Driveway access will be impacted temporarilyduring outer lane excavation and paving, and contractors will coordinate with individual businesses to limit driveway access disruptions. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Prosper Portland and the Portland Housing Bureau are setting up three dedicated Community Leadership Committee (CLC) to help develop the first 5-Year Action Plans for each of the recently approved East Portland Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Districts:
- 82nd Ave TIF District
- Sumner-Parkrose-Argay-Columbia Corridor (SPACC) TIF District
- East 205 TIF District
The East Portland Community Leadership Committees application is available here and will be open through Monday, May 26, 2025 and selected applicants will be notified of consideration for appointment in late June.

The Community Grants 2025 application period closes Tuesday! This fourth round of funding is strictly allocated for community-led projects and will distribute up to $67 million in grants. Apply by Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Mini-Grants for non-profit organizations available
With Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF) mini grants, organizations can apply for up to $5,000 for activities that align with goals of addressing climate change and advancing racial and social justice.
