Overview: April 28 – May 9

In the next two weeks, PBOT will have several active work zones along NE/SE 82nd Avenue and adjacent streets with lane closures and detours of side streets. Please travel safely around work zones and pay attention to all flaggers, detour signs, and traffic control devices. Pedestrian routing will be in place around work zones.

Details and traffic impacts:

  • NE Fremont – Underground electrical work, ADA corner ramp work, and select pavement repair will require lane closures.
  • NE Siskiyou – Underground electrical work and ADA corner ramp work will require lane closures.
  • NE Eugene – Underground work will require lane closures.
  • NE Sacramento – Underground sump installation on 82nd will require lane closures.
  • NE Tillamook – Underground work will require lane closures.
  • SE Harrison – Underground electrical work and ADA corner ramp construction will require lane closures.
  • SE Taggart – Underground work and ADA corner ramp construction will require lane closures.
  • SE Woodward – Underground work and pavement repair will require a signal shutdown weekdays from 4/30 to 5/9. Flaggers will direct traffic. An alternate driveway entrance via 85th Avenue is open to customers traveling to Fubonn Shopping Center during construction.

In addition to the above worksites, sump testing will take place at various locations with brief lane closures.

Heads up! PBOT begins paving 82nd Avenue in late May

As a part of the 82nd Avenue Major Maintenance project, contractors with PBOT will begin paving segments of NE/SE 82nd Avenue in late May, and paving activity will continue throughout the summers of 2025 and 2026.

The first section of paving will take place on NE 82nd Avenue between NE Beech and Fremont streets. Contractors will then pave additional segments on NE/SE 82nd between NE Siskiyou and NE Thompson and between SE Mill and SE Brooklyn.

Map of 2025 Paving Areas on 82nd Avenue

A map of 82nd Avenue between NE Sandy and SE Powell boulevards highlights areas of paving and start dates for each area. NE Beech to Fremont begins May 27; NE Siskiyou to Russell begins mid-June; NE Russell to Thompson begins mid-September, weather permitting; SE Mill to Harrison begins mid-July; SE Harrison to Clinton begins mid-August; SE Clinton to Brooklyn begins October, weather permitting.

The existing pavement on NE/SE 82nd Avenue is severely deteriorated in these sections, with cracking and water infiltration that extends below the surface of the roadway.

Graphic of a road

A street view of a five-lane street with two lanes in each direction and a center turn lane overlayed text explains the paving process. 1) Excavate and pave west side outer lane 2) Grind and pave west side inner lane and half of center lane 3) Excavate and pave east side outer lane 4) Grind and pave east side inner lane and half of center lane 5) Construct center median islands 6) Plant trees. An additional notation at a driveway states that driveway access will be temporarily impacted during steps 1 and 3.

One lane in each direction on 82nd Avenue will remain open during construction. People traveling on NE/SE 82nd Avenue can expect delays, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Driveway access will be impacted temporarilyduring outer lane excavation and paving, and contractors will coordinate with individual businesses to limit driveway access disruptions. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

PBOT will provide additional details in the coming weeks.
