What we accomplished together in 2025
Published

December 18, 2025

As we reach the end of 2025, we want to say thank you for your ongoing patience and support. Our team has been working hard on our multi-year initiative, Building a Better 82nd Avenue. We are excited to share what we've accomplished in 2025 and what's coming next.

NE 82nd Avenue at NE Russell Street, looking north. Many of our 82nd Avenue 2025 accomplishments are centered around maintenance and safety improvements near McDaniel High School. Improvements include smooth pavement, new accessible curb ramps, median islands with trees, and wider sidewalks with street trees. Photo by PBOT.

Looking back on 2025

PBOT made big progress on 82nd Avenue, in partnership with our construction contractors. A shoutout to our construction primes, Raimore Construction, Interlaken, and Moore Excavation.

Together, we:

  • Constructed nearly 1 mile (5,120 linear feet) of sidewalks, including sidewalk infill on SE Mill Street and sidewalk infill near Portland Community College
  • Completed six new pedestrian crossings: at NE Beech, Klickitat, and Schuyler streets; and SE Clinton, Ash, and Knapp streets
  • Built one new traffic signal at SE Schiller Street
  • Completed signal modifications at SE Washington Street
  • Paved 1.4 linear miles of NE/SE 82nd Avenue, including segments from NE Milton to Thompson streets and SE Mill to Brooklyn streets
  • Planted 115 trees
  • Upgraded 245 street lights with newer LEDs and installed  54 new street light poles
  • Installed 53 sumps, improving drainage and reducing ponding

In August, contractors with PBOT completed a grind and pave through the SE 82nd Avenue and Division Street intersection at night.

What's Coming Up in 2026

Next year will bring even more improvements to 82nd Avenue, and we will wrap up "Phase I Improvements", funded primarily by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

By the end of 2026, we'll complete:

  • Additional sidewalk widening on 82nd Avenue, including near SE Foster Road and SE Raymond Street
  • Installation of seven new or upgraded traffic signals, including a new signal at SE Harrison
  • Installation of five new or improved pedestrian crossings, including new crossings at SE Tibbetts, Lafayette, Ramona and Tolman and an improved crossing at SE Raymond
  • Paving from NE Thompson to Schuyler streets, SE Brooklyn Street to Powell Boulevard, and SE Liebe Street to Foster Road
  • Planting approximately 250 more trees

In addition, in 2026 we anticipate beginning construction on the NE 82nd Glisan and Davis Signal Improvements project.

Construction crews plant trees along new segments of sidewalk on NE 82nd Avenue near NE Russell Street. PBOT will plant approximately 250 more trees along NE/SE 82nd Avenue in 2026.
