Brentwood-Darlington Safe Routes to School Project

A construction worker excavates the roadway in advance of a new crossing at SE 82nd Avenue and Knapp Street.

Construction of a new signalized crossing at the intersection of SE 82nd Avenue and Knapp Street is now underway. This crossing for people walking and biking is part of the Brentwood-Darlington Safe Routes to School project. Periodic lane closures on 82nd Avenue will be necessary during installation.  

Work is anticipated to last through October 2024.

82nd Avenue Pedestrian Crossings

Contractors with PBOT complete concrete work at NE 82nd Avenue and Ash Street in preparation for paving.

Work continues on six new pedestrian crossings at the following locations:  

  • NE Beech – Concrete work for sidewalks and curb ramps, pedestrian pole installation 
  • NE Klickitat– Roadway demolition and repaving 
  • NE Schuyler– Roadway construction, signal head installation 
  • SE Clinton – Electrical work
  • SE Ash– Roadway and concrete work 
  • SE Schiller– No work in the next two weeks

The traveling public can expect to see lane closures and side street closures at intersections with construction activity as part of this work. 

NE Fremont Street Water Main Replacement   

Construction crews with the Portland Water Bureau (PWB) are replacing the water main on NE Fremont between 82nd and 83rd avenues. This work is in coordination with PBOT’s 82nd Avenue Major Maintenance Project. 

Traffic impacts:  

  • NE Fremont Street will be closed to vehicle traffic between NE 82nd and 83rd avenues Friday, Sept. 20 and Saturday, Sept. 21 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • A signed detour will be in place for eastbound and westbound vehicle traffic.
  • Sidewalks will remain accessible for pedestrians and bicycle traffic. 
  • People riding transit can visit trimet.org/#alerts/ for the latest service impacts.

82nd Avenue Major Maintenance Project

Current construction activities: Underground utility work is underway. The traveling public can expect periodic lane closures along 82nd Avenue between SE Powell Boulevard and Foster Road and on side streets in the area.  

This fall, construction of ADA corner ramps, sidewalks and driveways will begin.

Grants and programs available 

Local Small Business Repair Grants 

This program offers grant support to local small businesses. The Local Small Business Repair Grants are emergency funds that use funding allocated by City Council to provide support of up to $10,000 to local small businesses needing immediate repairs.

Portland Housing Bureau's Eviction Legal Defense Program

Renters! If you have received a termination notice, housing subsidy termination notice, or eviction court papers, you may be eligible for free legal support though the Portland Housing Bureau’s Eviction Legal Defense Program.
