As part of the 82nd Avenue Street Lighting Improvements Project, PBOT is upgrading street lighting on NE/SE 82nd Avenue within the city limits. Contractors with PBOT completed installation of new wooden poles last week, and they will install lighting equipment in the coming weeks. We anticipate the new street lights will be operational this fall.

Construction of new pedestrian crossings on 82nd Avenue will also continue in the coming weeks at the intersections of 82nd Avenue at NE BeechKlickitat, and Schuyler streets; and SE ClintonAsh, and Schiller streets. Contractors with PBOT are continuing with roadway excavation, curb ramps, regrading and repaving at 82nd Avenue at Klickitat, Schuyler, Clinton, and Ash.

82nd Avenue Major Maintenance Project construction starting soon

Last week, Portland City Council gave PBOT the green light to contract with Raimore Construction to build the 82nd Avenue Major Maintenance Project! We are ecstatic at reaching this huge milestone for Building a Better 82nd!

The 82nd Avenue Major Maintenance Project is our largest near-term project on 82nd Avenue. The Construction Manager/General Contractor construction contract is valued at $42.8M and the project will bring improvements to 2.5 miles of this high crash corridor.

As part of the project, PBOT will:

  • Repave 2+ miles of 82nd Avenue
  • Bring 140+ curb ramps up to ADA compliance
  • Widen and/or repair 10,000+ linear feet of sidewalk
  • Build 5 new or upgraded traffic signals
  • Build 2 new or upgraded signalized pedestrian crossings
  • Plant 175+ trees along 82nd Avenue

In August, we’ll host three “Meet the Construction Team” events where residents and business managers can meet the contractor and learn about what they can expect during construction.

More details below in our events calendar.

Last call for photos! Album of Roses Photography Contest

82nd Avenue has many roses and rose gardens located between grocery stores, eateries, houses and car lots. They are often hidden to us until June when they pop out in all their beauty. The 82nd Avenue Business Association invites you to enter their Album of Roses Photography Contest, through July 31, 2024.
