Project Updates

AS of February 2024, this project is beginning the design phase. Once preliminary designs are developed, there will be an opportunity for public review and comment. Construction is planned for late 2025 at the earliest.

Project Background

A high crash corridor, NE 122nd Avenue currently has long distances between safe pedestrian crossings. PBOT has received $6.4 million from Metro through the RFFA program to add four new enhanced crossings. Locations were selected based on public feedback and staff analysis from PBOT's comprehensive 122nd Avenue corridor plan and include crossings at or near:

  • NE Beech Street
  • NE Russell Street (upgrade)
  • NE Broadway and Hancock Street
  • NE Wasco Street and Multnomah Street

Each crossing will include high visibility continental (zebra) crosswalk markings, streetlighting, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps. Additionally, each crossing will be signalized with a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) and medians, Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons, or half signals.
