Project Updates

As of January 2025, the design work of a new signal at 122nd Avenue and NE Davis, and at 122nd Avenue and SE Clinton, is complete. This project will soon be bid and construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2025. Funding for these crossings is through Fixing Our Streets.

Design of the other signals on 122nd Avenue (at/near NE Beech St, NE Russell St, NE Broadway St, and NE Multnomah St) is now at 60% complete. A public meeting, with an opportunity for public review and comment, is currently being scheduled,. Portland City Council voted to accept federal grants distributed by Metro through the Regional Flexible Funding Allocation (RFFA) program which includes $6.4 million for this project. Construction is planned for late 2025 at the earliest.

Project Background

A high crash corridor, NE 122nd Avenue currently has long distances between safe pedestrian crossings. PBOT has received $6.4 million from Metro through the RFFA program to add four new enhanced crossings. PBOT is installing two additional crossings and lighting using Fixing our Streets funds in the same area. Locations were selected based on public feedback and staff analysis from PBOT's comprehensive 122nd Avenue corridor plan and include crossings at or near:

  • NE Beech St
  • NE Russell St
  • NE Broadway St
  • NE Multnomah St
  • NE Davis St
  • SE Clinton St

Each crossing will include high visibility continental (zebra) crosswalk markings, streetlighting, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps. Additionally, each crossing will be signalized with a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) and medians, Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons, or half signals.
