Section 4: Broadway to Glisan Repaving

Information
122nd Avenue from NE Broadway to NE Glisan street is getting repaved in summer 2025. The intersection at 122nd and NE Halsey St will be redesigned to be safer for people walking and biking.

Project Description

In late summer 2025, PBOT will repave 122nd Avenue between NE Glisan and NE Broadway. The paving schedule aligned with other planned improvements at the Halsey intersection so combining the projects together is more efficient. The purpose of the project is to improve pavement conditions on 122nd as well as safety for all road users. The restriping will align with the vision outlined in the 122nd Avenue Plan completed in 2023.

What changes are coming to 122nd Avenue?

  • Road resurfacing and enhanced bike lanes
  • Street lighting
  • Intersection safety upgrades

Future 122nd Avenue Cross-section

Diagram of the road showing two traffic lanes going each direction, a ten foot center turn lane, and two nine foot bike lanes.

After repaving, 122nd between NE Glisan and NE Broadway will still have two ten foot travel lanes in each direction separated by a ten foot center turn lane. The parking lane will be converted to a nine foot bike lane, with the current bike lane converted to a four foot buffer. The design will also include some medians and left turn restrictions as well as the removal of underutilized street parking to allow for the protected bike lanes.

NE Halsey Intersection Redesign

NE Halsey and 122nd Ave is a high crash intersection which has needed safety improvements for many years. Repaving is an opportunity to add new safety features that were identified in the 122nd Ave Plan.

Intersection elements corresponding to the map to the right:

  1. Signal upgrades and timing changes to separate people walking and biking from right turning vehicles
  2. New green painted bike crossing
  3. Raised bike lanes at intersections
  4. Restricting right turns on red lights to reduce conflicts between road users
  5. Median and turn restrictions along 122nd
