Community Engagement

PBOT's initial planning of the 122nd Avenue corridor engaged community members and stakeholders from 2017 through 2022 to understand how Portlander's use the road today and their priorities for the future. Since then, PBOT has continued to engage community members to develop the plan.

Since the completion of the plan PBOT staff has: 

• Sent mailers to 4500 residences and businesses in area (November 2025)
• Household outreach - knocked on 180 doors on or just off 122nd Avenue. (November 2025)
• Attended over 50 events to talk about the project. Since then, PBOT has engaged with thousands of residents, businesses, property owners, and other users of 122nd Avenue to refine the projects identified in the plan.

The team focused the project elements where we heard from the community their concerns were and where the crash data shows we need interventions. Much of this feedback was collected during the 122nd Avenue Plan process. Community feedback is helpful in refining the scope of work and the locations of investments as well.

This and other projects help meet the needs we heard from the community including adding more street lighting, enhancing
pedestrian and bike crossings, and enhancing the bike lane. Feedback from community members informed the prioritization of projects such as:

• Which intersections get redesigned, bus stops get improvements and where signals or added or upgraded.
• Adjusted designs to retain parking where needed.
• Adjusted design of medians to accommodate business access.
