Learn about the Food Truck pilot program

Service
The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is piloting a Food Truck program in partnership with Suburban Events. The program provides permits for food trucks to park and vend on city streets.

Background

During the Covid-19 pandemic, PBOT’s Healthy Businesses program permitted mobile food trucks to operate within the city. However, food trucks were not included when the temporary Healthy Businesses program retired in 2023 and PBOT's permanent Outdoor Dining program launched.

On Jan. 17, 2024, Portland City Council approved an ordinance allowing PBOT to permit food trucks in the Central City Plan District through 2025. If this pilot is successful, PBOT will propose a permanent program to council in the fall of 2025.

How it works

PBOT has partnered with Suburban Events to coordinate the details of food truck placement and management.

Food truck owners looking to join Suburban Events’ fleet are encouraged to fill out an interest form. Community members and businesses are also encouraged to fill out the interest form if they would like food trucks to serve their buildings and community spaces. A representative from Suburban Events will then work with the vendor, business owner, and PBOT to ensure the best and safest place for the trucks to park and vend on city streets.
