Temporary Street Use Permitting issues three different permits that allow the reservation of on-street parking. Choose the permit type that best fits your situation.
Residential move permit (up to 4 days)
- Best for: reserving on-street parking for residential moves in non-metered areas (that is, areas where you don't have to pay to park on the street).
- Where it can be used: in non-metered areas only. Please click here to see a map of Portland's metered (pay to park) districts.
- What it allows: the reservation of up to 40 feet of parking.
- How long is it good for: up to 4 days.
- Price: $54
- Processing time: Immediate. Submit your application and you will be directed to pay through our online system. Once the invoice is paid, you will be sent a link to your PERMIT ID CARD (to place in the dash of a moving van or truck, or affix to the side of a storage container) as well as 'NO PARKING' SIGNS you may print (in color) and display yourself.
Simple temporary street use permit
- Best for: all parking-only requests that do not qualify for the 4-Day Residential Move Permit.
- Where it can be used: any valid on-street parking space in the city, metered or non-metered areas.
- What it allows: the reservation of on-street parking ONLY to facilitate residential or commercial moves, loading or unloading for events, construction, tree trimming, and other uses. Number of spaces requested by applicant.
- How long it is good for: up to 26 weeks, with start and end dates requested by applicant.
- Price: varies by type of parking, the number of spaces, and the duration. See cost estimates here:

Complex temporary street use permit
- Best for: reserving parking as part of a request to close portions of a sidewalk, traffic lane, bike lane, or a full street closure.
- Where it can be used: any valid on-street parking space in the city, metered or non-metered.
- What it allows: the reservation of parking to facilitate construction, utility work, crane lifts, tree trimming, and other uses.
- How long it is good for: up to 26 weeks, with start and end dates specified by applicant.

These next steps are for SIMPLE and COMPLEX temporary street use permits, only. All steps of the 4 Day Residential Move Permit process can be completed by the applicant immediately after submission of their application.

Pay for your permit
After your permit has been created, reviewed, and approved, we will email you a link to pay online by a certain due date. The permit can be paid for with credit card or electronic check. For pricing information, explore our current fee schedule.

Receive your permit
When payment confirmation is received, we will email you your permit copy and any supporting documents.
- For Non-Metered areas, we will email you your permit copy, 'no parking' signs to print (in color) and place out yourself, and the non-metered parking reservation overview.
- For Metered (pay to park) areas, we will send you your permit copy and the metered parking reservation overview. PBOT installs the no parking signs for you in Metered areas.
