The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is constructing Local Improvement District street improvements on NE 42nd Avenue, 46th Avenue, & Bryant Street. Phase 1 includes new traffic signal, curb ramps, cross walks, sidewalks, street lighting, and trees. Phase 2 includes additional improvements.

What's Happening Now?

Design for Phase 1 is complete and a construction contractor has been selected. Construction on Phase 1 will start early in 2024.

Timeline

  • Local Improvement District formed by Portland City Council on Jan. 16, 2019
  • Project split into Phase 1 and Phase 2 in early 2022
  • Phase 1 design completed July 2023 with Phase 2 to follow

Project Components

Phase 1 (starting early 2024):

  • New traffic signal, curb ramps, and crosswalks at NE Columbia Boulevard and 42nd Avenue
  • Enhanced street lighting and new sidewalk on NE Columbia Boulevard from 42nd to 46th avenues
  • NE 42nd Avenue rebuilt in concrete with sidewalk from NE Columbia Boulevard to 320 feet north to support heavy bus and freight traffic
  • 29 new street trees with two-year establishment period

Phase 2 (starting early 2025):

  • Pave and add sidewalk on NE 46th Avenue from Columbia Boulevard north to dead-end
  • Build a new segment of NE Bryant Street with sidewalk from 46th to 47th avenues
  • Stormwater and sanitary improvements
  • 27 new street trees with two-year establishment period

Funding

$15.7 million from property owners and Bureau of Environmental Services with overhead costs funded by the Portland Bureau of Transportation
