The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is constructing bike lanes on SW 35th Avenue by reorganizing the road. The project is funded by Fixing Our Streets and is identified in the Southwest in Motion plan.
What’s happening now?
SW 35th Avenue between SW Ridge Drive and SW Arnold Street is in the design phase. Work will be completed by PBOT’s Maintenance Operations crews in Spring 2021. Construction was originally planned for Spring 2020, but was delayed because of the SW Boones Ferry Bridge and Restoration Project, which will be detouring vehicle traffic onto SW 35th.
This project was first identified in the Portland Bike Plan for 2030 (created in 2010) and was prioritized for implementation in the Southwest in Motion plan for active transportation projects in Southwest Portland.
This project will reorganize the road to create bike lanes that connect neighborhoods to Jackson Middle School and future biking connections. An application to reduce the speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph is being submitted for review by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
$185,300 from Fixing Our Streets for both this project and SW 45th bike lanes.
