SE Thorburn Street: 73rd Avenue to 74th Avenue Sidewalk Project

Project Description

The project will design and construct a sidewalk on the north side of SE Thorburn Street to create a safer and accessible sidewalk. The project will connect the new sidewalk to existing sidewalk near SE 73rd Avenue. 

The project design includes the following elements:

  • Approximately 355 feet of 7-foot wide sidewalk, and some sections with 5-foot wide sidewalk to preserve existing street trees
  • Three new curb ramps at the intersection of SE 74th Avenue

This project has coordinated with the Jade and Montavilla Multimodal Improvement Project.


Project Goals

  • Create an accessible pedestrian path on the north side of SE Thorburn Street
  • Preserve the existing trees and shrubs with the sidewalk design

Project Impacts

  • PBOT will be closing the north-south crossing on the east side of SE 74th Avenue at SE Thorburn Street

Project Background

This sidewalk project is a high priority sidewalk project in PedPDX, the citywide pedestrian master plan. Portland has over 170 miles of missing sidewalk across the city.

  • Postcards: Construction notification postcards sent to the surrounding neighborhood

  • Letters: Letters sent to impacted property owners with the project design, explaining what they can expect to happen during construction.
  • Postcards: Project notification postcards sent to the surrounding neighborhood and neighborhood association.


Project Funding

This project is funded by general transportation revenue House Bill 2017 with a budget of $371,000.
