SE Division Street Repaving Project

The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) will be repaving SE Division Street from SE Cesar Chavez Blvd to SE 50th Avenue in the summer of 2026.

What's Happening Now?

From Aug. 24 to Sept. 4, through traffic on SE 50th is impacted in both directions. To minimize additional public transit disruptions, TriMet's bus line 14 will use SE 52nd Avenue as a detour between SE Hawthorne and SE Foster. 

Regional travelers passing through the area on SE 50th Avenue should consider using SE Cesar E Chavez Blvd as an alternate route.

Construction Schedule

PBOT began constructing corner ramps in the summer of 2024. This work was complete in the summer of 2025. Repaving began on begin August 1, 2026. Total construction time for repaving is expected to be approximately 10 weeks. This schedule is tentative and may change, so please check back for updates.

What to Expect During Construction

This project will be constructed in phases to avoid as much disruption as possible. Construction segments will be approximately three blocks in length, apart from the intersections and SE Cesar Chavez Blvd and SE 50th Avenue.

Work at SE Cesar Chavez Blvd will involve a full weekend closure. SE 50th Avenue will take approximately three weeks and will involve partial closures, 24-hour flagging, and periods of full closure. These intersections may involve weekend and evening work. There will be one additional full closure between SE 48th Avenue and SE 50th Avenue, which is anticipated to last 3 days. All other segments of the project will be constructed Monday through Friday during standard business hours, and SE Division Street will remain open for one direction of traffic.

Parking will need to be temporarily removed on SE Division Street at construction locations.. Please check back for more information as construction approaches.

TriMet will reroute FX2 eastbound and westbound bus service via SE Hawthorne Boulevard between SE César E Chávez Boulevard and 50th Avenue from Saturday, Aug.1 through Monday, Aug. 3 and FX2 westbound bus service via SE Hawthorne Blvd from Tuesday, Aug. 4 through Monday, Aug. 10. Check TriMet.org for details on bus service impacts later in August.

Project Scope

PBOT began repaving SE Division Street from SE Cesar Chavez Blvd to SE 50th Avenue on August 1, 2026. As part of the project, we upgraded curb ramps to meet current ADA standards. This is required by federal law whenever we repave a street. 

PBOT began constructing corner ramps on SE Division Street between SE Cesar Chavez Blvd and SE 49th Street in the Summer of 2024. The work began on the west end of the corridor between SE Cesar Chavez Blvd and SE 45th Street. Corner ramp work SE 45th Avenue and SE 49th Avenue and was complete in the summer of 2025.The remainder of the project will be complete in summer 2026. 

This repaving project is funded through the City General Fund.
